Eco-Factor: Recycled mobile phones, old keyboards and computer parts transformed into a giant sculpture

What do you get when you mix many little Nokia mobile phones, old keyboards and computer parts? I know, you picture a dumping site, which would be the biggest pollutant contributor in the world. But, this giant Nokia Mobile phone will force you to re-picture. Made from many-many recycled mobiles, old keyboards and other computer parts, this giant phone has appeared on of the biggest squares in Cluj, Romania, as part of the Planet Report Environmental and Film Festival. And, as a part of this Eco festival, the local artists were asked to create artworks out of waste. This mobile phone was the result of this quest.

Eco Factor: Concept charging station powered by renewable solar energy.

Of all portable electronic gadgets that are out there on the market, cellphones seem to attract one and all. Smartphones also bundle various systems into one device that makes the offer even more lucrative. However, the rising concerns about energy and e-waste, have made industrial designers think about concepts that are green or make cellphones greener in one way or the other.

Industrial designer Vino Jose is trying to better the eco-credentials of cellphones with a s sustainable public charging station that allows users to get their cellphones charged on renewable solar energy. The main body of the concept is made of sheet metal, which is bent and welded. The steel pipes are clamped to the bottom housing through clamps which are welded to the body. The clamp holder is also made of sheet metal which is clamped to the steel pipes by muffler clamps.

The trays for keeping the mobiles are made from acrylic sheets bent at the edges to prevent mobiles from falling down. The trays are clamped to the holder using metallic clamps. Moreover, LED bulbs are provided inside the top and bottom boxes for illumination. Advertisements are printed in vinyl to transmit light.
